- Setting up the system

We already found
out about the
configuration panel (Preferences) for the system on the first boot.
There we had to set-up the screen resolution for the Desktop. Most of
the system's I was able to install on had no problem with screens what
so ever. On the laptop from our oldest daughter there is an S3 build in
video chip that doesn't handle the modes so I had to use VESA config to
setup the screenresolution, same thing with the laptop from my wife
that uses a Via chipset. People with ATI or Nvidia should have no
problems (the Nvidia driver - thanks to Rudolf Cornelissen - is even
able to use hardware OpenGL - alpha driver available on BeBits)
- Changing Network settings

Setting up the
Network is the
next thing to do, no fun in having a OS without Internet access. ZETA
comes with a network wizard that helps you to setup your networking
environment. In just a few steps your dial-up/lan(wireless) is up and
running (all depending on your hardware of course). I had no problems
with configuring the Realtek network cards here, the Orinoco Wavelan
card on the laptop, I was not able to connect through the US-Robotics
pcmcia card the wife uses to connect to the Internet on her laptop. I
had the luck of having a wireless centrino laptop here so I could test
the live cd and the internal card was detected flawless (although I
wasn't able to setup the connections then) .
- Checking Media settings

Now a system with no
sound is
nothing ... especially if you profile yourself as a MediaOS. ZETA had
no
problems detecting my SB Live5.1 soundcard and sound plays very nice.
On the laptop the AC97' chip (with Intel chipset) is playing very nice
too, seems that Via chipsets with Via sound/video seems to be a problem
that can be solved in some times with the experimental driver on the cd
(/ZETA_1.0/_PACKAGES_). It helped me in one case to get the sound
working.
I was not able to
print here (all-in-one printer Lexmark 3510). But I've heard from other
people that they had luck in printing (so I have to take their word for
that one).
- Appearance

As some of you have
already heard ZETA comes with a easy to use/change theming system. a
few themes already made it before the deadline (I was happy to see that
one of my own made it ;)). Changing the tabs (decor ..
windowbehaviour), colors or fonts is an easy task and a blessing for
those who still wish to use the old R5 decor (which was fixes btw).
The other settings
in the system are pretty easy to use and to setup.
